REVITALIZATION AND RITUALS FOR LIFE

Winter is finally in the rear-view mirror, and we’re all starting to feel the magnetic pull that calls us to put down our phone and go play outside.

More than any other goal, our purpose at Birchwood is to help people deepen their connection to the outdoors and natural spaces.

Not only for environmental reasons, but also for the enjoyment and subconscious benefits. These days we probably all spend far too much time indoors, glued to our screens and devices.

Spring has always been associated with themes of renewal and revitalization for obvious reasons. The earth is coming to life again, and the time is right for cleaning up, clearing out and making things new.

This seasons is a good time to think abut renewing ourselves, too.

Small personal rituals that connect us back to life, nature, and fresh air are more important that every these days.

Hobbies like hiking are obvious choices given the raw beauty that’s never more than a 30 minute drive away when you live here in the LML. Gardening at home is another way of “active meditation” that forms a sense of renewal by (literally) grounding you back to the living earth while also improving the look of your home.

Read a book outside. Do yoga or workout on the lawn. Set up a hammock. Dust off the Bar-BQ. Invite a few friends over to enjoy patio drinks. Switch on the fire pit since it still gets cool at night.

Tune into your surroundings outdoors — even if you’re just walking around your neighbourhood.

So much of what the media shows us these days is designed to drain, fatigue and rob us of vibrancy. A connection to your own back-yard oasis, outdoor living spaces, and to the trails, hills and forests that surround us… that, my friends, is the cure.
