aes·thet·ics
/esˈTHediks/
A set of principles concerned with the nature and appreciation of beauty.
Good design is invisible.
It’s easy to dazzle the mind and overload the senses by packing as much into an outdoor living space as humanly possible.
But is that isn’t design. And it won’t improve your quality of life.
Good design often isn’t noticed immediately, and therein lies its brilliance.
It doesn’t jump up and announce itself. It's something you sense in the fundamental “correctness” of a place.
You feel it as much as you see it.
Good taste is important — you can’t pair wine to a meal without it.
But an aesthetics is something more.
A set of principles underlying and guiding the work of a particular artist or artistic movement. An aesthetic goes beyond appearances and informs the way you live.
When it comes to your home, the aesthetic you curate offers the possibility for total immersion in a place that is a truly reflect your own values and aspirations in a way that nowhere else can.
Landscape design is the art and science of through fully transforming your outdoor living space to improve both the value of your home and the quality of your life.
Less, but better.
The principles of good design have not changed over the years.
This holds true for all kinds of design, not just landscapes.
Dieter Rams, the product designer behind Braun’s electric shaver and the alarm clock radio, famously stated: “Less, but better” when it came to his own creative ethos.
We agree.
Our tendency is to concentrate on the essential aspects of a yard, ensuring the space is not burdened with needless clutter. Life, after all, presents enough clutter and chaos without our help.
In this way landscape design takes care if irritations before they arise.
The elements of unity, scale, balance should always collaborate to craft a space that is distinctively yours. Something that minimizes clutter and maximizes peace of mind and enjoyment, whatever those things mean to you.
When your front yard says, “welcome home”, and your back yard makes you feel it? — THAT is an aesthetic.
